Usage Statistics
Accessing course page statistics
in ERes - a simple primer for faculty
Faculty frequently want to check
their ERes pages to see how many times students might have accessed certain
documents. ERes contains a powerful statistics tool that is easy to use and
that works extremely quickly. There's nothing to set up or install, and faculty
can check the stats from any location and at any time. Stats can be compiled
for monthly or daily usage, and for document hits or course page hits.
Start by navigating to your course
page from the ERes home page. From the
right side of the page, click on Page Management and log
in. (contact ERes if you're not sure
what your login user name and password are). You should be at a screen that
looks like this:

Click on Get Access Statistics in the
lower right corner. You'll see a screen that gives you a variety of options:

Use the pulldown menu to select either
Course Page Hits (number of times the course page itself was accessed)
or Document Hits (a list of all documents on the page and how many times
they were accessed). Select Monthly to get a list of how many times the
access took place during a given month (for example, you might want to know how
many times the Johnson article was read during September), or Daily to
get the accesses broken down by date (for example, you might want to know many
students might have accessed the article the night before an exam).
Choose From: and To: dates
and click the box shown if you'd like all of the records to display on one page.
Then click on the Continue button and your stats will display on screen.
Note: In the following examples, I've chosen to get stats for a report type
of Document Hits, monthly, from September 1, 2001, to October 26, 2001, and
I've checked the Display all records on one page box.

Please note that in this example,
the documents are in alphabetical order for each month, so you'll see
all of the documents on your course page listed in the month beginning
9/1, and then you'll see all of the documents again for the month beginnning
10/1.
I can see in this list how
many times each of my documents was accessed over a month-long period.

By clicking on the Resource
Name link, you can then reorganize the same list so that it is strictly
in alphabetical order. In this case, you see that each document is listed
twice (once for each month), but the two listings are right next to each
other. So, for example, this might be the best way to organize something
if you wanted to check on the number of times a particular document was
accessed over a period of months. I can see here that the Circulation
Sub List was accessed 26 times in September and 9 times in October.

Finally, I can click on the
Hits link and reorganize the same list based upon the number of
times that each item was accessed. I can see by this list that the Circulation
student review training was barely accessed October but that our Circ
students were looking at the Circulation Desk Schedule a lot in September.

number of accesses

Access stats can be checked at any
time, from any web location. The stats page also gives instructions on how you
might copy and paste the stats into Word or Excel if you would like to save
or display them.
If you have any questions about how
to access your course page stats or about how to use any other features of your
faculty account, please contact Bud Hiller
in ISR.
