The Housebook dates from around 1480 A.D. The manuscript was acquired in the 17th century by Lord High Steward Maximilian Willibald Waldburg Wolfegg, of Wolfegg Castle near Ravensburg. Believed to have been compiled as a reference source for a patrician land-owner, the Treatise in the first gathering is in Latin script; texts in other gatherings are in Middle High German, with some Hebrew and Italian. Depicting the full scope of Medieval life and all classes of society, The Housebook is organized into four sections: Astrology with the seven constellations represented; medicinal and household recipes; technology of warfare; mining technology.
