Figure 2 shows all steps of the printing process after the paper is hung and the type is inked. First, the frisket is folded down over the tympan. The tympan, in turn, is folded down over the type tray. The bed is rolled under the press and the handle turned, then released. The action of the handle lowers the platen down on the tympan, imprinting the inked type into the paper.
